Rider aids
KTM rider aids are developed to enhance riding experience by providing more control in different riding scenarios. ABS, MTC, and specially engineered RIDE MODES allow you to get the most out of your machine when barreling down the motorway, or when attacking twisty mountain roads.
MTC (Motorcycle Traction Control)
Making use of the latest generation of KTM MTC, traction is improved by using an advanced 6D Inertial Measurement Unit. This not only regulates and controls any slip at the rear wheel but also prevents uncontrolled lifting of the front wheel. With these two forces combined, the motorcycle is guaranteed the best possible acceleration. With all the data collected from the various sensors, the system detects and controls power wheelies and ensures stability as well as smooth wheel landing and acceleration.
Cornering ABS
Grab a handful of brakes with total confidence thanks to a new 9.3 MP ABS unit. This allows riders to use full braking power mid-corner with the 6D-sensor doing all the hard work. The 6D-sensor works by continuously monitoring and evaluating the current dynamic state of the motorcycle, enhancing safety and stability during braking. Also, this level of ABS technology is unmatched, providing precise and efficient stopping power with the highest level of safety.
Seat Comfort
The single-piece Supermoto-style seat on the KTM 890 SMT was developed to allow uninhibited freedom of movement while providing maximum grip and comfort when carving around mountain passes solo. Want to tour 2-up? No problem. The seat has been designed for long days in the saddle touring with a pillion, too.
Supermoto ABS
So, it makes sense then that any KTM motorcycle bearing the SMT name has a need to deliberately execute slides. SUPERMOTO ABS allows the rider to lock the rear wheel as and when required - a prerequisite for committed Supermoto riding. The ABS function remains active on the front wheel while activated, too.
Wheels and Tires
Michelin PowerGP tires are wrapped around a set of 17" lightweight, light-alloy wheels. This means low levels of unsprung mass, and epic levels of handling and ride dynamics.
Brakes
Slowing the apex hunting KTM 890 SMT down comes courtesy of twin 320 mm brake disks and JJuan 4-piston radially mounted calipers. These are used in conjunction with a J.JUAN axial master cylinder, making for impressive braking control and stopping power. At the rear, a 260 mm brake disk is actuated by a double-piston floating caliper, also supplied by J.JUAN.
Reworked Suspension
So, it makes sense then that any KTM motorcycle bearing the SMT name has a need to deliberately execute slides. SUPERMOTO ABS allows the rider to lock the rear wheel as and when required - a prerequisite for committed Supermoto riding. The ABS function remains active on the front wheel while activated, too.
Bodywork
Not to be mistaken for anything else on the mountain. The KTM 890 SMT has a double fender design, composed of a high front fender - that takes inspiration from the KTM 450 SMR - and a lower splash guard which is connected to the fork leg protectors. This, along with spoilers and rear side panels that are slightly wider than the seat for improved control and to reduce wear and tear on the seat, and in-mold graphics for further durability, make the KTM 890 SMT ready for anything.
Frame
The overall geometry of the KTM 890 SMT was developed for sharp handling, and comfort when attacking the mountain passes- with unchallenged hillclimb capability. Strength was a big consideration in the design, so a tubular Chromoly steel frame is used with the engine acting as a stressed member to reduce weight and overall size. Additionally, the compact frame allows for a long swingarm which improves traction without compromise handling.
Subframe
Featuring a lightweight and solid construction, the subframe is fully loaded for street attack. The motorcycle beneath you needs to be built to last. The steel trellis subframe was developed to be compact, lightweight, and strong enough to carry a full load of luggage as well as a passenger on those long hunting session to find the ultimate mountain roads.
Stability
The 2023 KTM 890 SMT is rock solid at any speed, thanks to a high-end steering damper. Engineered to provide unflappable composure at all times, the steering damper works to keep the front end stable when flicking through tight turns or hauling over mountain passes.
Fuel Tank
In true Supermoto fashion, the fuel tank is purposefully designed to be sleek for optimal rider movement. With an overall fuel capacity of 15,8 liters, more than 300 km of twisty roads await you.
