Lake Alan Henry

A fairly popular reservoir during Texas’ scorching summers, Lake Alan Henry is located around 45 miles south of Lubbock and 4 miles east of Justiceburg. There’s no lack of space here as the surface area of this lake spans a whopping 2,880 acres. Many fishers choose to frequent Lake Alan Henry due to the massive population of largemouth bass in the area. These fish can be caught using various kinds of bait and are most likely to be caught during springtime. Other potential catches include catfish, crappie, smallmouth bass, and sunfish.

Don’t worry if fishing isn’t quite your forte because there’s plenty of other activity options at Lake Alan Henry. For example, the lake also offers jet skiing, waters skiing, camping, hiking, hunting, birding, and wildlife viewing. It’s easy to see why this is such a popular spot: there’s something for everyone to enjoy! If you simply want to experience some beautiful scenery then be sure to check out the overlook near the main park road as its the highest point and offers breathtaking views of the reservoir and surrounding area.

White River Reservoir

White River Reservoir is located near Kalgary approximately 13 miles from Spur. This location has an impressive population of many types of fish including largemouth bass, channel catfish, crappie, white bass, walleye, sunfish, and flathead catfish. At this particular spot, the water levels tend to fluctuate pretty drastically so be sure to check the current level before heading out. You won’t find yourself twiddling your thumbs in boredom at White River Reservoir. This location offers picnic areas, two RV areas, four campgrounds, a fishing house, and a marina.

Buffalo Springs Lake

The surface area of Buffalo Springs Lake is about 200 acres and is situated about 9 miles southeast of Lubbock. Fish found in Buffalo Springs Lake include largemouth bass, crappie, channel fish, striped bass, and walleye. This spot is a great recreational area for all of West Texas. The family can enjoy a number of fun activities with specific areas for water skiing, fishing, boating, picnicking, horseback riding, camping, and hiking. There is a party house available to rent as well as an amphitheater and four pavilions. There is a gate admission per person that varies from $5 to $11 depending on your age and a recreational vehicle admission that varies from $6 to $11 depending on the type of vehicle.

Lake McClellan

You’ll find Lake McClellan approximately 50 miles east of Amarillo with a surface area of about 340 acres. The lake level can get very low due to droughts and at times, boat ramps are not usable so be sure to check the status first. As a result, there are not very many fish to catch at Lake McClellan. Luckily, there are other activities to enjoy other than fishing. You and your family are welcome to enjoy picnicking, camping, and boating. You can also visit Lake McClellan Recreation Area that offers ten miles of narrow ATV trails. Certain fees apply when using the campgrounds and ATV trails.

Lake Meredith

Another great place to enjoy a boating trip is Lake Meredith, which is located about 30 miles northeast of Amarillo. Lake Meredith is extremely popular thanks to the wide range of recreational activities in the area. Since the early 2000s when it opened as a National Recreation Area, Lake Meredith has been a popular attraction for several outdoor activities including camping, fishing, water skiing, tubing, wakeboarding, hiking, biking, hunting, and much more. Start up the boat and don’t forget to bring along the water skis, tubes, wakeboards, and whatever else your tribe might find fun and exciting.
