I was recently asked by Family PowerSports to test and review their Olympia Moto Sports jacket.
The jacket is an armor, airflow vent design made of 100% nylon outside and 100% polyester inside. The zip out lining is 100% nylon outside, 100% mix of nylon and polyester inside and the insulation is 100% polyester.
The cut of the jacket is figure flattering to any gender. There are a couple of invisible zippered pockets on the front of the jacket. Both sides of the jacket have Velcro straps to allow for a snug or loose fit. The Velcro feature is also on the elbow area. I did not care for the Velcro around the neck area as it kept scratching me so I had to tuck it inside the jacket. At first I thought the Velcro around the sleeves was broken until I realized it left room for a pull tab so you could easily pull it apart, especially if your wearing bulky gloves! Very nice.
I found it quick and easy to insert the zippered lining and really liked the special pocket on the outside made especially for your cell phone. I also really liked the look and cut of the lining. Elastic gatherings on each side also made this very figure flattering. This feature also keeps cold air from flowing to the upper body.
What better way to test this jacket than a 4 day ride to Red River, NM with friends from the Hub City Wings Motorcycle Club.
When we left Lubbock that Friday morning the temperature was 71 and so I wore the jacket without the liner. By the time the temperature was 82 I had to remove the jacket as I was getting warm. The airflow was adequate but wished there had been more venting.
Saturday morning we headed for Taos and the temperature was 45 degrees. I wore the liner and the jacket and stayed very warm and comfortable until it reached 60 degrees. I removed the liner and just wore the jacket. I was very comfortable until the temperature reached 80 degrees and then I removed the jacket.
Again Sunday morning I wore both the jacket and the liner until around 60 degrees for the liner and 80 degrees for the jacket.
Monday was heating up quickly and so when we left Red River at 6:30AM on our return home I only wore the jacket. It was 52 degrees. A little cool in the shade, but nice in the sun. I removed the jacket at 76 degrees and since we rode back into 104 degrees I did not wear it again!
I loved this jacket and would highly recommend it for the comfort, the protection and the ease of inserting the liner. I ride a little warmer than most people and found the jacket and liner to be a great combo for the cooler temperatures. I will also be buying the matching pants that go with the jacket, for the cooler riding days.
THANKS Family PowerSports!! Ruth Frith
